Description
This is a cropped version of my panoramic photo of Vancouver during a fog inversion, showing downtown Vancouver and the Lions Gate Bridge appearing to float in the fog.
Capturing this was an exhausting process, both physically, due to the need to be at the viewpoint well over an hour before sunrise to make sure of capturing the best light in the morning and well after sunset to get the low fog in the evening, and mentally, because I was never sure when I wasn't at the viewpoint whether the conditions were correct. I'd estimate I spent 14-15 hours 'on location' staring at a wall of fog to get this result, and my time at home was largely spent checking weather conditions, webcams, traffic cams and social network posts to try and figure out if I was missing the shot!
This photo is also available in a wide panoramic format that shows more of the city buildings and fog, but this version is made available for customers who want a print with a more traditional aspect ratio, providing a tight crop of the key downtown buildings such as the Shangri-La and Harbour Centre, with the tower of the Lions Gate Bridge in the foreground.
